Back-To-School Dental and Orthodontic Tips

As students gear up for the new school year, it's time to get their back-to-school appointments taken care of. If you haven’t yet, remember to schedule your child’s orthodontic adjustment. If you haven’t scheduled with us before, now is also a great time to book an orthodontic consultation to plan any necessary treatment for the upcoming school year.

Our practice offers flexible appointment times from 9:00 to 5:00. If you need to schedule an appointment that might conflict with school hours, we can provide an excused absence note. Just let us know before you leave if you need one.

If your student is wearing braces, remind them to take extra care of their teeth. If they plan on doing sports, wearing a mouthguard is crucial. Remember to also leave time after breakfast to brush teeth before heading out the door. And make sure to brush teeth after school to remove all the food your students ate during the day.

Speaking of food, there are certain foods that are better for your oral health. Avoid soda and energy drinks due to their high sugar and acid content, which can be particularly harmful when you have braces or aligners. On top of that, we recommend you brush your teeth at least three times a day. For those with braces, steer clear of hard, crunchy, sticky, and chewy foods. Avoid popcorn and gum and remember to cut your food into smaller pieces and chew slowly.

For students wearing retainers or aligners to school, always carry your case. Anytime your appliance is not in your mouth, make sure it is in your case. There are only two places they are allowed to be - in your mouth or in your case!
